We took over the The George Inn on the 23rd of November 2009. We (Anthony & Tracey) are a young family originally from the Essex area. Taking over in November 2009 our aim for The George Inn is to re-establish it as the hub of the community by providing good pub food and drink in a relaxing and friendly atmosphere whilst building partnerships with the local community. We also pride ourselves in our variey of real ales many of which are dispensed direct from cask on the back bar.
About The George
The George Inn is one of the oldest pubs on Portland and is reported as being the oldest inhabited building on the Island. The George Inn was previous residence of the court leet and much of this history is in evidence around the building. The evidence includes an original reeve staff which was used to record rent payments.
Areas of the George
The George Inn has an unusual layout which currently has four different areas in use for the public plus a lovely south facing beer garden. Each area has it’s own unique character and charm that one would expect to find in this lovely 17th century building.
