The Duke of Cumberland, Canterbury, Wednesday night quiz @ The Duke of Canterbury | Canterbury | England | United Kingdom

The Duke of Cumberland

The Duke of Cumberland is one of our three family-run pubs in the area, the others being The Jackdaw in Denton and, as of 1st May, The Gatekeeper, (formerly known as The New Inn), in Etchinghill.  The Duke of Cumberland is first and foremost, a traditional English Country Inn. Built in 1749 the Inn is named after the Duke of Cumberland, commander of the English Army that put down the Jacobite rebellion at the battle of Culloden in 1746. The Duke is reputed to have trained his troops in the surrounding countryside.

This is the perfect place for the weary travelers or those looking to relax in a comfortable environment with a convivial atmosphere.

Great food, drink and accommodation.

With its distinctive frontage and tower, tucked away in a leafy area of Bournemouth, a short walk from the centre of town and the beach, the Dean Park Inn is a popular meeting point for locals and visitors alike. Whether you fancy a sociable pint of Wadworth’s finest ale or a bite to eat, there’s something for everyone.

The public bar area offers a traditional pub atmosphere and we no longer show Sky Sports..a sport free zone! There is also a separate, more intimate restaurant area offering a choice of pub classics which can also be hired out as a private room for family functions, birthday parties and celebrations.

We have 12 guest bedrooms, all with en suite bath or shower rooms, flat screen televisions with free view, WiFi access, tea, coffee and hot chocolate making facilities, complimentary biscuits and mineral water. Included in the room price is our award winning breakfast – the perfect way to start the day before exploring all Bournemouth has to offer.

The Dean Park Inn is situated on the A347 Wimborne Road, roughly 1/2 mile from Bournemouth town centre. There is a large car park situated at the front of the building, although a walk in to town will take you less than 15 minutes – and you can be on the beach in 20! As a popular tourist destination we’re aware that during the summer months the roads into and around Bournemouth can be subject to delays. The Three Crowns, Chippenham fortnightly quiz night @ The Three Crowns
May 8 @ 19:15 – 23:15

The Three Crowns is a family run traditional community local which is a truly independent free house, specialising in real ales, ciders and perry.

Originally built c.1700 the Three Crowns has been a pub since the early 18th Century, with a Victorian extension added c.1820.  There is a main bar with a real fire plus a cider/snug bar. We have a darts team in the local league, and a fortnightly quiz night. There are music and spontaneous singing nights as well as other events, such as vinyl nights, magic nights, etc, which enhance our community pub ethos.

We regularly raise money for charity, The Alhzeimers Society, Butterfly Giving (fighting teenage cancer) & The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust being two local ones. Our biggest fund raiser, is however, Movember which is a charity helping to fight against prostate & testicular cancer. We have raised c.£4,000 over the last 3 years. We have also had two cake bake offs where money has been raised for Help for Heroes & Cancer Research. More recently, one of our barmaids, Becky, has organised a couple of charity Leg + waxing events & has raised over £500 for Combat Stress.

There is always a range of 7 ales available from light summery to dark luscious. We intend always to have two dark ales available & one over 6.0 %. In addition there is a good selection of single malts as well as, at least, 3 farmhouse ciders & a perry available in the cider bar. Our ales & ciders are sold in over-sized marked glasses, ensuring, un-like other pubs, the customer who pays for a pint is served a pint. A kegged craft cider is now available – Handmade Spring Surprise.

Food is limited to good old fashioned pub snacks, filled rolls and award winning Walter Rose Pork Pies at the weekends, occasionally Gwen’s spectacular Scotch Eggs, with more substantial hot & cold snacks available at beer festivals. We also operate a BYO scheme, where you can eat your take aways in The Back Bar (cutlery & crockery are available).

Ales, ciders and perry are sensibly priced with an additional 30p per pint discount for members of CAMRA.

There are 4 ale and cider festivals a year and we hold special ale & cider evenings. Please visit our diary page for more information.

We support CAMRA’s campaign for local ale (LOCALE) & stock beers from the following breweries, Abbey, Arbor, Ashley Down, Blindmans, Box Steam, Bristol Beer Factory, Castle Coombe, Cottage, Cotleigh, Cotswold Spring, Electric Bear, Glastonbury, Gloucester, Great Western Brewery, Hop Kettle, Kennett & Avon, Milk Street, Moor, Nailsworth, New Bristol Brewery, Plain, RCH, Shed, Stonehenge, Stroud, TAP, Three Castles, Three Daggers, Towles, Twisted, Twisted Oak, Two Cocks, Wessex, Wickwar & Willys . Plus regular suppliers from further afield, Celt Experience, Oxfordshire & Slaters. Plus the numerous guest breweries. Alas, we also stocked beers from local breweries who, now, no longer exist. These being Devilfish & Malmesbury.

Our Cider Bar attempts to stock examples from all Wiltshire cider producers. These are Circle, Handmade, Mates, Moonshine, Sherston & Wessex. Other producers wares are sometimes, also, available.

Eating out and staying in Pembrokeshire has never been so good.

Locations don’t come much more exciting than this. Our bed & breakfast accommodation and restaurant is within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and just 15 minutes walking distance of the Pembrokeshire Costal Path, Stackpole Quay and Barafundle Bay – described by the Sunday Times as “a desert island dream beach in Wales.” Close by are the Stackpole Trust Centre, the Lilly Ponds of Bosherston and the stunning beach – Broad Haven. Also St Govans Chapel, The Green Bridge of Wales ( a huge natural arch) and Stack Rocks (a bird watchers paradise) are a short drive away from our bed & breakfast accommodation and restaurant, as are the beaches of Freshwater East and Freshwater West for the more energetic surfers amongst us.

Climbers of all grades visit our bed & breakfast accommodation while they tackle the cliff faces, fishermen will enjoy casting from the beaches and rocks, or perhaps going out by boat with local fishermen and, not forgetting the children, there are events and fun at Pembroke Castle, Folly Farm and Oakwood Leisure Park all only 20 minutes drive away.

Our bed & breakfast accommodation consists of four high quality kingsize ensuite rooms on 2 levels, 2 downstairs and 2 upstairs. Two of these rooms also have double pull out sofa beds, making them ideal family rooms for up to 4 people. The 2 upstairs rooms can be converted into twin rooms (upon request). Please note this on your online booking if required. The rooms are situated in a standalone building in the grounds of The Stackpole Inn.

The George Inn, Portland, Dorset monthly quiz night @ The George Inn | Easton | United Kingdom

We took over the The George Inn on the 23rd of November 2009. We (Anthony & Tracey) are a young family originally from the Essex area. Taking over in November 2009 our aim for The George Inn is to re-establish it as the hub of the community by providing good pub food and drink in a relaxing and friendly atmosphere whilst building partnerships with the local community. We also pride ourselves in our variey of real ales many of which are dispensed direct from cask on the back bar.

About The George

The George Inn is one of the oldest pubs on Portland and is reported as being the oldest inhabited building on the Island. The George Inn was previous residence of the court leet and much of this history is in evidence around the building. The evidence includes an original reeve staff which was used to record rent payments.

Areas of the George

The George Inn has an unusual layout which currently has four different areas in use for the public plus a lovely south facing beer garden. Each area has it’s own unique character and charm that one would expect to find in this lovely 17th century building.
